When it comes to fashion, we hear the phrase “timeless classics” a lot. While that may sound cliché, it’s certainly true that having a base of core staples in your capsule wardrobe that you can rotate throughout the season is the key to staying stylishly well-prepared for any event that comes your way. Sézane has long been one of my favorite places to shop for all of my essentials. Sometimes, however, a Sézane piece can be an investment, but don’t worry, there are similar stores that have a wide selection of pieces available at all price points, such as Reformation and J. Crew, to help round out your closet. While the prices, sizes and styles may differ, these brands still nail the cozy minimalist luxury vibe that is especially important as we head into fall and winter.

So, without further ado, here are 14 brands like Sezane if you’re looking for comparable pieces to shop.

Best Royally Approved Brand

1. Reformation

What I Like

  • large variety in catalog
  • size inclusive

What I Don't Like

  • tends to sell out quickly

Reformation

This beloved brand is loved for its sustainability efforts and use of low-impact materials. Aside from its trendy and timeless pieces, the brand is registered as a certified Climate Neutral company, with plans to operate as a fully circular fashion system by 2030. Our editors have given quite a few products from Reformation a try, including the popular Abby and Cynthia jeans, which one former editor described as among the most fitted jeans they had ever tried. Even better, the company is also royally approved (Princess Beatrice has been spotted in the brand), giving you even more incentive to try it out.

2. Alex Mill

What I Like

  • has a curated selection based on seasons and trends
  • affordable

What I Don't Like

  • smaller catalog compared to other brands

Alex Mill

First launched in 2012, Alex Mill is something of a blend between Madewell and J.Crew, with an sophisticated flair that’s similar to Sézane. Homing in on well-crafted essentials such as khakis, elevated t-shirts and luxury sweaters, the company prides itself on offering timeless pieces that are unique and easy to pair with a wide variety in your closet.

Best for Elevated Styling

3. DOEN

What I Like

  • offers sophisticated styles
  • fast shipping
  • great picks for all body types

What I Don't Like

  • on the pricier side

Doen

Another royally approved fave, DOEN is your one-stop shop for vintage-inspired pieces that pay homage to the journey of Coastal California style. Whether it’s a temperature-friendly wool sweater that will keep you warm and toasty during the cooler months, or a versatile lightweight nap dress that can be worn to your lunch dates and picnics, DOEN has a vast catalog available to suit your individual needs and personal style.

Best for a ‘90s Vibe

4. & Other Stories

What We Like

  • promotes sustainable efforts
  • large catalog

What We Don't Like

  • doesn’t offer petite sizing

& Other Stories

& Other Stories is a PureWow favorite for its 1990s-style pieces and minimalist aesthetic. The sister label to H&M, bright patterns and colors are the staple of the brand, with a mixture of luxe-looking pieces that span across a lineup of clothing, shoes and accessories. While some of the pieces are an investment, the average price is between $100 and $200, which is reasonable considering the quality of their pieces and how long they last.

A PureWow Favorite

5. Quince

What I Like

  • high-quality
  • lots of versatility in their catalog
  • affordability

What We Don't Like

  • sizes sell out quick

Quince

Quince has become renowned for its almost Amazon-caliber range of products, with a focus on offering high-quality pieces at major discounts. Our editors have personally tested several best sellers, including the popular tiered maxi dress, the Fisherman sweater and the under-$100 cashmere sweater. Their thoughts? That the quality level is shocking for the brand’s super-affordable price point. I, too, recently splurged on their under-$70 Italian leather flats and found the quality phenomenal and the break-in time minimal. I could keep going, but the bottom line is, Quince is a brand whose emails you need to subscribe to.

Best for Elevated Staples

6. ba&sh

ba&sh

You’ll definitely nail French girl style with the Parisian label ba&sh, which has a price range of $20 to $2,000, depending on what you’re shopping. Founded by childhood best friends  Barbara Boccara and Sharon Krie, who have always shared a joint love of fashion, the brand needs to be your go-to for suede ballet flats, knitted sweaters and printed dresses. Though those are just a few of the many (and I do mean many) offerings you’ll find on their website. If unique and timeless pieces are what you’re going for, ba&sh is a brand that gets the job done.

7. Maje

Maje

Launched in 1998 and founded by Judith Milgrom, Maje is a brand that defines the essence of Parisian styling through its modern approach to classic French staples such as tweed jackets, mini leather skirts and ballet flats. Some of their offerings, however, venture into the territory of bold-couture, which gives you a lot to play around with in their virtual closet. Whether you’re going for a minimalist vibe, or want to experiment with something more edgy, Maje is the brand for you.

Best for Haute Couture

8. The Frankie Shop

What I Like

  • blend of Parisian and New York fashion
  • offers pieces that can last you for years
  • great quality

What I Don't Like

  • can run on the pricier side

The Frankie Shop

PureWow’s former Associate Fashion Commerce Editor, Stephanie Meraz tipped us off to this brand after interviewing Parisian influencer Melodie Bance. “Whether you're looking for a pair of perfectly cut cargo pants or a timeless blazer, The Frankie Shop has you covered,” she told Meraz, adding, “They sell various trendy brands, as well as their own designs, and everything is curated to perfection.” Granted, the price points can be a bit on the higher side, but, again, you can think of their pieces as an investment guaranteed to last you for years.

Best Classic Brand

9. Madewell

Madewell

Founded in 1937, Madewell is well-recognized and respected for its vintage-inspired aesthetic, sustainable efforts and timeless designs. J. Crew’s younger sister, the brand always has boatloads of new finds available to shop, making it company that has your back regardless of the season. From posh dresses to their beloved jeans, Madewell truly has it all. Whatever you do, don’t sleep on the latter: “The lightweight denim is so comfy,” reports PureWow Senior Editor, Dana Dickey. Comfortable and stylish? No wonder it’s an editor favorite.

Best Preppy Brand

10. J. Crew

What We Like

  • affordable prices
  • good basics
  • a brand that can jumpstart your capsule wardrobe

What We Don't Like

  • restocking can take a while

J. Crew

Speaking of the Madewell family, J.Crew is key to nailing a preppy, polished aesthetic. From chic work clothes to pieces you can wear a night out on the town, J. Crew’s styles are classic and high quality enough to last for ages. Plus, the prices are affordable, and their clothing looks *much* more expensive than the price tags they’re accompanied by.

Best for a Boho-Chic Style

11. Christy Dawn

What We Like

  • prioritizes sustainability,
  • offers ready-to-wear basics
  • has gorgeous patterns and colors

What We Don't Like

  • low stock on certain items

Christy Dawn

Similar to Sézane, Christy Dawn is also committed to sustainable initiatives as they only use organic materials and deadstock fabrics. What’s more, the company also only uses recycled leather and wool, and has made it a priority over the years to invest in regenerative farming practices. This makes shopping from them especially impactful, as you know the environment isn’t being harmed in the creation of their clothing. Plus, their product assortment is a dreamy one packed with artsy, boho-chic dresses, and cozy wardrobe staples that will round out your closet beautifully.

Best Sustainable Brand

12. Marine Layer

What I Like

  • prioritizes sustainability
  • has a California aesthetic
  • comfortable wear

What I Don't Like

  • on the pricier side

Marine Layer

If you’re not already familiar with Marine Layer, the San Francisco-based apparel brand if renowned for their ultra-soft fabric and sustainability efforts. In fact, the company is a Certified B Corporation, which means they’ve been vetted to confirm their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and overall climate impact while contributing to their employees’ and community’s wellbeing. While athleisure is the core of their offering, the pieces are luxe enough to dress up for an elevated look (I.E., a crewneck sweater and pencil skirt combo).

Best for Collaborations

13. Rouje

What I Like

  • has a wide range of elegant pieces in their catalog
  • frequently collaborates with other brands
  • has a global presence

What I Don't Like

  • often sells out

Rouje

Whether you are a longtime Rouje fan, or you just learned about them their recent collection with J. Crew, the Paris-based brand, which our editors dub the “French It Girl favorite,” Rouje was founded in 2016 by Jeanne Damas and Jérôme Basselier, and began quickly receiving praise for its eco-friendly pieces, and classic pieces that embody the elegance of Parisian fashion. From structured jackets to tailored trousers, rest assured you can find almost anything you are looking for from Rouje, which is exactly why their styles are always in demand.

A Meghan Markle Fave

14. Jenni Kayne

What I Like

  • offers timeless pieces that can last years
  • prioritizes sustainability

What I Don't Like

  • on the pricier side

Jenni Kayne

Meghan Markle loves Jenni Kayne, and so do our editors, who have referred to the brand as highly valued with a reputation for chic-yet-cozy workday and weekend basics. A common favorite for many is their famous cocoon cardigan and stylish Cove dress, the latter of which former Commerce Editor, Olivia Dubyak, referred to as a “go-to summer dress you can throw on for anything from running errands to heading to dinner on a beach vacay,” in her review. While the prices may have you hesitant at first, you won’t regret any purchase you make from them once you see the quality and craftsmanship up close.
