We are in the throes of summer (and 90 percent humidity), with butter yellow still reigning supreme since it’s surge in early 2025. But, while the shade is a showstopper on its own, I’m noticing fashionistas finding new ways to embellish it this season—sometimes in surprising ways.

PureWow Editorial Assistant Courtney Mason first noticed butter yellow and cherry red cropping up in late winter. A surprising combo, for sure, given, as she called it, the ketchup-and-mustard vibes. As the year went on, I noticed another pairing that I think will carry us through August: Butter yellow and blue.

This poppy duo has been dotting the runways recently, notably in the Spring/Summer26 shows, including Paradis, Amiri, Fiorucci, Kenzo, Undercover and Willy Chavarria, with street style photographer Karya Schanilec also capturing a bevy of outfits in the wild.

If you’re thinking, Great, another color trend I need to master, don’t fret. For the same reasons cherry red and butter yellow worked so well together, blue and butter yellow do, too, specifically because they’re all primary colors. I love the butter take because it softens yellow’s innate vibrancy and makes it a gentle pastel instead of something electric or Minions-like. It’s elevated—and by choosing the right tint or shade of blue, you can create plenty of visually interesting outfits. Below, ten items to get you inspired for summer’s hottest color pairing.

Staud is famous for their beaded bags, but when I saw this lemony number, I slowed my scroll. It’s a tad brighter than butter yellow, but bright, fun and cheeky. I can’t resist an eye-catching statement piece, and it’d be a great pairing with a more demure shade of blue. The leather bag has a little leaf detail and optional (beaded) yellow strap, so you can wear it as a shoulder bag or clutch.

It’s no secret that Quince makes some exceptionally good cashmere. Their classic and versatile cashmere cardigan coincidentally comes in a soft butter yellow shade. It’s slim and cropped, great for layering on a cool evening or pairing with a sundress when your office has AC on blast.

I have an inkling all the cool girls are picking up Reformation’s Gemma linen two piece in a shade of yellow they call Parmesean, featuring a relaxed vest and low-rise shorts. (Pockets included.) Throw on a white button-down or T-shirt, or some white pants, and you’ve got two new outfits from this set. (Better yet, in the theme of this article, opt for blue.) That’s what I call multi-tasking.

Come warm weather, I don’t want to be wearing anything but linen. It’s sturdy, holds up in the washing machine and, importantly, dries quickly. Gap’s got this cheery, straight-leg pair with pockets and a concealed zip closure. It’s available in three fits (regular/tall/petite) and sizes US 00 to 20.

You can’t ever go wrong with a shirt dress. The tailoring lends an instant polish, while allowing freedom of movement. (And I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to do in the summer is wear pants.) This 70/30 cotton-linen chambray design from Tuckernuck feels like something you might catch Kate Middleton wearing on a seaside holiday. Paired with that Staud lemon bag…you can do no wrong.

The Anthropologie Tobie dress is a legend. Petite-approved by PureWow editors, dubbed the NYC summer girlies’ office outfit…there are both tea-length and mini iterations in a bevy of colors and patterns. Oh, and did I mention there were pockets? I’m loving this on-trend mini version in navy, with eyelet detailing on the skirt.

The Maeve Colette Pants are approved by not one, but THREE PureWow editors. (And, spoiler, the petite size is 10/10.) The Mosaic Blue hue is almost cerulean, deeper than a pastel but still bright and eye-catching. They’re made from a linen, viscose and elastane blend for a bit of stretch. And yes, the pants are machine washable. "I really love how lightweight and stretchy the Colette pants are,” says PureWow Associate Commerce Editor Natalie LaBarbera.

The powdery shade of Cornflower blue makes Reformation’s Everette dress a perfect pairing with butter—or even bright—yellow. It’s 100 percent linen with a square neckline, smocked back and eyelet detailing on the straps, waist and skirt. I can totally see myself pairing this with the butter yellow Quince cardigan on a cooler summer evening.

If you’re not into the heavy tailoring that is the Anthropologie Tobie dress, Gap’s polo mini is a great alternative, available in what they call a “French Almond Yellow.” The slight fit-and-flare defines curves and doesn’t have you drowning in fabric, while the stretchy jersey knit allows you to move freely without fear of popping a button. (Been there, done that, yes it was mortifying.)

I’d be remiss not to include denim on this list of blue clothing—but in the summer, who wants to wear jeans? That’s why I was excited to find this denim mini skirt in both light and dark washes, with lots of pockets. It would pair well with the Reformation vest above, with the Quince sweater thrown over your shoulders.
