I don’t’ know if you’ve noticed, but fashion is fixating on pastels—particularly butter yellow. Actually, PureWow editors have been talking about butter yellow trend since last year: how it’s taking over interior design, Instagram and Pinterest feeds and, most especially, the fashion landscape. The color trend is cheery, accessible and not so different from your go-to neutral of white. It was one of the most worn shades on guests during NYFW, and many designers showcased it, too, in their Spring/Summer 2025 collections, from Miu Miu to Loewe. Its ability to transform from a neutral to a seasonal accent is what makes it so accessible, and perhaps the reason why it’s remained a consistent color of choice for the fashion obsessed. Keep reading for ways to style the butter yellow color trend, plus a few of my favorite pieces to shop if you don’t already have it in your closet.

How Can I Pull Off the Butter Yellow Color Trend?
Yes, yellow has always been one of those colors that’s a little bit harder to wear than, say, blue or green, but when done properly, it can be magic. Below, I’ve laid out a few ways to style the pastel that you can copy verbatim or use as inspo to make your own.
- Try out a butter yellow blouse: Easy does it with a buttery blouse. The same way you wear a bright red or lilac, channel that with a top in the trendy color. Whether you opt for a T-shirt or try out a fancier V-neck top, focusing the hue just at the top of your body will draw the eye up and introduce a nice pop of color that’s not overwhelming.
- Use a jacket as a pop of color: If you don’t want to be locked in with a blouse, a yellow jacket can be a nice alternative. You’ll still be able to drape it over your shoulders and wear it atop another shirt, but you have the freedom of taking it off whenever. Plus, you can balance it out with more colors and prints elsewhere.
- Consider a yellow blazer: I don’t know who needs to hear this, but not all blazers have to be black or navy. In fact, I’ve seen an influx of cotton and linen blazers in the butter yellow shade worthy of your warm-weather wardrobe. Wear it just as you would your capsule wardrobe blazer, with trouser, or try jeans and a tee for something a bit more casual.
- Go big in a monochromatic outfit: While it might not seem like it (due to the colorful shade and all), wearing butter yellow head-to-toe is actually one of the easiest ways to pull it off. The key to mastering it is to stick to the same exact shade of butter yellow, like with co-ord sets, and try to refrain from fabrics that might work against each other, such as linen and silk.
- Try it in smaller doses with an accessory: Whether with sneakers or a purse, dip your toe in the buttery pool with a pop of color using accessories. It’s a great way to introduce new colors and elevate your outfit without having to buy a whole new wardrobe.
