So, you’ve decided to bring a feline friend into your life. And after much research on different breeds, you think you’ve found one that is the right size for your space, plenty affectionate and will get along beautifully with your plants. But how can you really be sure that you’re adopting the right cat for you (or that your current furry friend is your perfect match)? You consult the stars, of course. Here, the best cat for every zodiac sign.
The Best Cat Breed for Each Zodiac Sign
Aries (march 21 – April 19): Egyptian Mau Cat
Energetic Aries need a cat that matches their upbeat, vivacious spirit and the Egyptian Mau is a top contender. Yep, there’s never a dull moment with these active felines, which suits adventurous Aries just fine. Expect lots of meowing, swishing of the tail and climbing on bookshelves, tables and refrigerators. And just like the first sign of the zodiac, Egyptian Maus will boldly go where no one has gone before (i.e., don’t be surprised when this clever kitty learns to turn the faucet on by herself).
Taurus (april 20 – May 20): American Shorthair Cat
Taureans can be hardheaded and fierce when provoked, but in their element this earth sign is super cool, calm and collected (just like a bull). That’s why they make the best parents to American shorthair cats. These felines are easy-going and mellow (just as long as you leave their bizzy balls alone, that is). And while they love getting attention from their owners, they also don’t mind keeping themselves company—a perfect match.
Gemini (may 21 – June 20): Siamese Cat
Cancer (june 21 – July 22): Sphynx Cat
For most people, a hairless cat can be jarring. However, for Cancers, it’s an opportunity to shower a beautiful pariah with love. These water signs absolutely love nurturing and playing house and Sphynx cats will lap all that attention right up. Because they don’t have fur to keep them warm, these peculiar cats love being cuddled or dressed up so they stay nice and toasty. Sphynx cats are also energetic, charismatic and ultra-charming. Sound familiar?
Leo (july 23 – August 22): British Shorthair Cat
Leos love being the talk of the town, and one sure way to get tongues wagging is by adopting one of the most aesthetically pleasing cats to look at. With their gorgeous, soft and fuzzy coats and perfectly round and ultra-squishable faces, admiration-seeking Leos are sure to create some buzz with this kitty in their home. British shorthairs also have gentle and dignified demeanors, and are often characterized as loyal, so any Leo should feel right at home with this breed.
Virgo (august 23 – September 22): Persian Cat
Neat-freak Virgo is definitely not looking for an over-active pet that ruffles around and creates a mess. Happily, Persian cats are docile, independent and quiet, so they’ll fit right into any Virgo’s immaculate home. Of course, they love the occasional pat and affectionate boop, but they are happy to play in the background and will give their owners plenty of space. And while this breed does require a fair bit of grooming, patient Virgos are more than up for the task.
Libra (september 23 – October 22): Scottish Fold Cat
As the social butterflies of the zodiac, Libras don’t like being alone for too long and guess what? Neither do Scottish Folds, so this one’s basically a match made in furry heaven. Known to be social, loving and smart, there isn’t a lap Scottish Folds don’t love curling into. Because of their affable nature, Scottish Folds are also great with children—just make sure you teach your two-legged babies not to be too rough.
Scorpio (october 23 – November 21): Burmese Cat
Much like Scorpios, Burmese cats are known to be loyal to their people—dubbed as “velcro cats,” these felines will attach very closely to their humans. Just don’t expect them to be so friendly and affectionate with new people who enter their space (but don’t worry, they’ll warm up to your new partner eventually). Once they’ve bonded with you though, you will enjoy endless antics performed just for your viewing pleasure. Like the eighth sign of the zodiac, Burmese cats are known to have very strong personalities and even a streak of stubbornness, so you may need to coax and cajole these felines into their best behavior at times (but hey, that should be no problem for determined Scorpios).
Sagittarius (november 22 – December 21): Abyssinian Cat
Lively, athletic and ever the explorers, Abyssinians have a lot in common with Sagittarians. Like Sags, Abyssinians are not known for their ability to sit still. In fact, these sweet felines are highly inquisitive and intensely curious, so you’ll most likely see them digging and scrummaging through various nooks and crannies. Oh, and these little adventurers also love climbing and jumping, so a home with lots of perches and shelves will make the perfect abode.
Capricorn (december 22 – January 19): Munchkin Cat
Where others see obstacles, you dear Cap, see possibilities. And Munchkin cats are the same—these adorable felines never let their shortcomings keep them from living their best lives. They’re characterized by their stout bodies and short legs, but what they lack in physicality, they make up for with their gigantic personalities. These beloved fluff balls are super affectionate, love playing with other animals and have a keen eye for shiny objects (so wear your hoop earrings cautiously).
Aquarius (january 20 – February 18): Ragdoll Cats
Ragdoll cats are just as loving, playful and friendly as most cats, but they’re also quite unique in that they can pick up a few tricks. They may come when you call them and can even learn to play fetch. These special kitties would be the ideal match for offbeat and innovative Aquarius because if there’s one zodiac sign eccentric enough to have a cat that plays fetch, it’s an Aquarius.
Pisces (february 19 – March 20): Maine Coon Cats
Pisces love their space and alone time and Maine Coon cats are the same. Known as the “gentle cat,” this feline is well-mannered and affectionate, but not clingy. Like this fish sign, Maine Coons are masters at the art of loving you from a distance—they won’t curl up in your lap too often, but they’ll happily chill in a corner as you do the laundry, make dinner or work in your home office. In other words, these two were made to be alone, together.
