This Fantasy Adventure Series Quickly Jumped to the #1 Spot on Netflix

When it comes to fantasy series, part of the thrill involves losing yourself to a world unlike your own. Fans throughout the years have traveled from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to the dystopian landscape of Panem. Now, there's a new mystical setting that's gotten everyone's attention: the Grishaverse.

In this universe that looks like Pirates of the Caribbean meets Game of Thrones, the Grisha are a group of people with extraordinary powers, who can manipulate the elements of the earth into different forms of weapons. These characters appear in a series of books by Leigh Bardugo that has now been adapted into a Netflix original series titled Shadow and Bone.

The highly-anticipated TV series was just released this weekend, and it's already jumped to the #1 spot on the streaming site. Check out the trailer below.

Netflix's official writeup says: "Shadow and Bone finds us in a war-torn world where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems."

The series stars Jessie Mei Li as Starkov, along with Ben Barnes (Westworld), Archie Renaux (Voyagers), Freddy Carter (Free Rein), Amita Suman (The Outpost) and Christopher "Kit" Young (A Midsummer Night's Dream).
