This New Survival Series Is Currently No. 1 on Netflix and Giving Major ‘Cast Away’ Vibes

Drama alert: A new limited series titled Keep Breathing recently debuted on Netflix and it’s already claimed the number one spot on the streaming service’s top ten list. Giving us a mix of The Wilds, Cast Away and Lost, the survival series stars Melissa Barrera Martínez (who you might recognize from Scream 5), and just by reading the description alone, we’re definitely adding this one to our Netflix queue.

The Netflix series follows a young woman named Liv (Martínez), who must fight to survive after her private jet crashes in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. As she battles past traumas and the present dangers of the wilderness, Liv uses her wits and survival skills to stay alive.

Alongisde Martínez, the ensemble cast includes Jeff Wilbusch (Danny), Austin Stowell (Sam), Florencia Lozano (Lucia) and Juan Pablo Espinosa (Tomás).

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show’s creators Martin Gero and Brendan Gall shared their inspiration behind the series. “We started four years ago coming out of working on Blindspot, which was the loudest hour of television,” Gero said.

He continued, “We started talking about what the quietest show we could make [would be], and it grew out of that. We were dealing with anxiety, being Canadians living in America, and we found it incredibly restorative to go up to the Canadian wilderness in our off time. The idea of a serene thriller, a show that could be terrifying and urgent to watch, but could have moments of serenity, started to unfold.”

We know what we’ll be watching this weekend.
