It’s official: Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Per Deadline, ABC has finally renewed Grey’s Anatomy for season 19. The outlet confirmed that Pompeo will reprise her role alongside Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber).

According to the press release, the new episodes “will explore the ever-expanding world of modern medicine through the eyes of beloved returning and new characters.” Series creator Shonda Rhimes revealed that the renewal is all thanks to the cast, the crew and the dedicated fans.

“I couldn’t be more excited that we get to keep telling the stories of Meredith, Bailey, Richard and all of the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial for another season,” said Rhimes. “This is a true testament to Krista Vernoff, the cast, the crew and all the writers who keep the audience on the edge of their seat week after week. And it would not be possible without the generations of incredible fans who have supported Grey’s Anatomy for so many years.”

The news might surprise some fans, especially since many believe Grey’s Anatomy will end soon. However, ABC had yet to confirm that season 18 would be the show’s last. To top it off, the network didn’t specify whether the upcoming 19th season will be the final one, so it’s possible Meredith will continue to grace our screens for a couple more seasons (or so we hope).
