This brand-new Netflix movie is getting attention for all the right reasons.

Introducing Devil All the Time, a psychological thriller that premiered on September 16 on Netflix. It’s only been on the streaming service for a few days, but the film immediately shot to number one ahead of The Smurfs 2, The Social Dilemma and The Paramedic. (It’s now been dethroned by The Take.)

So, what’s the hype all about? Devil All the Time is based on the 2012 novel by Donald Ray Pollock and takes place over a 20-year period, beginning in the ’40s at the end of World War II.

The multi-generational tale introduces viewers to multiple stories, but they all lead back to Alvin Russell (Tom Holland), a young man who’s determined to protect his loved ones from the widespread corruption and brutality that lurks in his hometown of Coal Creek.

Although the characters try to move on from past skeletons, they soon learn that family secrets can only stay buried for so long.

In addition to Holland, the movie features an all-star cast, including Robert Pattinson (Preston Teagardin), Bill Skarsgård (Willard Russell), Haley Bennet (Charlotte Russell), Riley Keough (Sandy Henderson), Mia Wasikowska (Helen Hatton) and Harry Melling (Roy Laferty).

Devil All the Time was directed by Antonio Campos (The Sinner), who also wrote the screenplay. Randall Poster (Tiger King) and Jake Gyllenhaal (yes, that Jake Gyllenhaal) served as executive producers.

First Away, now this? Guess our weekend plans will consist of a hot date with Netflix (not that we’re complaining).
