Oh No! Another Fan Favorite Character Is Leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in Season 18

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

Get ready to say goodbye to yet another character on Grey’s Anatomy.

Following the mid-season winter finale, fans were left in utter dismay after Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), Teddy (Kim Raver) and Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) got into a terrible car accident.

Now, flash-forward to Thursday’s premiere. The trio survived and escaped the vehicle. But, the entire ordeal made Cormac re-evaluate his time at the hospital. After recovering from the accident, he handed in his resignation notice to Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and decided to go back to Ireland with his kids.

When Cormac told Bailey the reason behind his departure, he said his children were unhappy and wanted to move back home. However, that wasn't the entire truth. Cormac was faced with a tough decision: report Owen for wanting to help sick war veterans die peacefully or leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital altogether. In the end, he decided on the latter.

Per Deadline, sources confirmed that Flood will make his final appearance in the next episode, titled “Living in a House Divided.” The 39-year-old actor joined the cast in season 16. He was first introduced as a potential love interest for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). But, their relationship was put on hold after she contracted COVID.

Shortly after the announcement, fans took to social media to express their disappointment on Flood’s departure. “I can’t believe this is the end for Cormac Hayes,” one fan posted on Twitter. Another said, “Richard Flood was such a joy to watch. It hurts to see him leave [crying emoji].”

We’ll miss you, Dr. Cormac Hayes.
