When it comes to iconic teen movies from the ’90s, Clueless is pretty much at the top of the list. A modern, Beverly Hills–infused take on Jane Austen’s Emma, the 1995 film follows Cher Horowitz—a stylish, popular high schooler with a heart of gold—as she gives makeovers, plays matchmaker and tries to figure out her own identity along the way. It's witty, endlessly quotable and somehow still relevant almost 30 years later.

Now, get ready to totally freak out (in a good way) because Alicia Silverstone is officially returning as Cher in a Clueless sequel series currently in development at Peacock. Yep, the queen of Alaïa herself is back but this series will have a seriously unexpected twist.

While details about the plot are still mostly under wraps, here's what we do know: this won’t be a straight remake or reboot. Instead, it’s being described as a “mystery series” where Cher goes missing—leaving the spotlight on her best friend Dionne, per Variety. So yes, it’s Clueless, but with a Gen Z twist and possibly a dash of drama.

Silverstone confirmed the news on Instagram by sharing a throwback meme from the original film and a screenshot of the announcement. Her caption? “Totally buggin’… in the best way.” And fans completely lost it. One wrote, “Dream come true,” while another said, “This is the best day of my life.” Same.

While there’s no word yet on whether other original cast members will return, we do know that Silverstone reunited with her former co-stars—like Breckin Meyer and Elisa Donovan—at 90s Con in 2023 and even filmed a hilarious clip with Stacey Dash (aka Dionne). And then there was that 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten where she reprised the iconic role.

Long story short: Cher is back and I'm so here for it. Stay tuned—this could be way existential.
