Here’s Why Sarah Ferguson Didn’t Attend Prince Philip’s Funeral

While scrolling through photos from Prince Philip’s funeral, we couldn’t help but notice that Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson didn’t attend the festivities. However, there’s a totally valid reason for her absence.

As Hello! magazine points out, the 61-year-old royal was carrying out a super-special role: grandma. During the funeral, Ferguson was watching her new grandson, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

We’re not totally surprised by the news, since August’s mom, Princess Eugenie, attended Prince Philip’s funeral alongside her husband, Jack Brooksbank. (She was also accompanied by her dad, Prince Andrew; her sister, Princess Beatrice; and her brother-in-law, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. However, August and Fergie were noticeably missing from the pack.)

The ceremony was held in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, which is about a 20-minute drive from Ferguson’s house. Although Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank currently reside at Frogmore Cottage, it’s only a short distance from the Royal Lodge, which is shared by Eugenie’s divorced parents.

We initially learned that Princess Eugenie had welcomed her first child back in February. One week later, the royal announced his name in an Instagram post, writing, “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank [blue heart emojis].”

Although Ferguson didn’t get to attend Prince Philip’s funeral, we applaud her for soaking up every second with her new grandson.
