The royal calendar is packed this week, and for good reason: it’s the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), marking the end of WWII in Europe on May 8, 1945. And yes, the royal family is commemorating the moment in a way only they can—complete with military processions, a Buckingham Palace tea party and some truly moving tributes.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace shared a stunning series of photos from the day’s events. At the center of it all? King Charles and Queen Camilla, joined by Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—for a military procession and flypast outside the Palace. The standout image? A dramatic, almost cinematic shot of the King saluting from behind as rows of Union Jack flags line the street.

Other glimpses from the day include a touching photo of the King and Queen seated as they watched the ceremony, as well as sweet, candid moments between Prince Louis and Prince William. Kate, who looked elegant in a deep purple monochrome ensemble, along with Charlotte and George were spotted engaging with someone who appeared to be a veteran. Princess Anne, the Duke of Kent and Duchess Sophie were also photographed at the event.

The post was captioned, “We remember and pay tribute to all those who served during the Second World War. The King and Queen, alongside other Members of the Royal Family, joined extraordinary veterans (@RoyalBritishLegion) on the Queen Victoria Memorial outside Buckingham Palace to observe military units processing down The Mall."

The commemorations are just getting started. Tuesday, Queen Camilla heads to the Tower of London to view a new display of ceramic poppies. Later in the week, the family will reunite for a service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey and a celebratory VE Day concert at Horse Guards Parade. Saturday will close out the week with more tributes to the veterans who served.

Happy VE Day!
