Like father, like son

Today marks a somber milestone for London and the royal family is paying their respects. On July 7, 2025, the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings, Prince William stepped out to honor the victims, joining survivors and families of those lost at the official memorial site in Hyde Park.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’s official Instagram shared several photos and video clips from the outing, showing William dressed in his signature navy suit, crisp white shirt and blue tie. In the lead image, he’s seen standing quietly in front of the memorial, which had been adorned with fresh flowers.

“Remembering the victims of the 7/7 attacks on this 20 year anniversary by joining survivors and bereaved families at the Memorial Gardens in Hyde Park this afternoon,” the caption read. “Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and with those who bear the scars of the attacks to this day.”

Now, royal tributes on anniversaries and public holidays are nothing new. It’s a tradition royal watchers are used to seeing. But what caught my eye about this photo is just how similar it is to a throwback image from King Charles’s tribute earlier in the day.

The monarch also shared a solemn message on social media, along with a photo of himself at the very same memorial. And, yes, he was wearing a nearly identical outfit—dark suit, white shirt and a blue tie. The visual symmetry between father and son was hard to ignore and felt like a subtle, united front from the two royals. (Swipe to the second photo below to see for yourself.)

The 7/7 attacks remain the deadliest terrorist incident in British history. On the morning of July 7, 2005, four suicide bombers targeted London’s transit system during rush hour, killing 52 people and injuring nearly 800 more.
