It's actually so obvious

It’s been a whirlwind week for the royal family as they commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day. From King Charles and Queen Camilla to Duchess Sophie, Princess Anne and even the late Princess Diana’s older sister, Lady Sarah, royals of all ranks have made appearances at various events honoring the end of WWII in Europe. Prince William and Princess Kate have been front and center throughout the celebrations—and yes, their three kids even made a surprise appearance earlier this week.

On Monday, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis joined their parents for a military procession. But at today’s service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey, the young Wales trio was noticeably absent. The reason? Totally relatable: school.

According to The Mirror, the children remained at Lambrook School near the family’s home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. While the rest of the family was honoring the occasion with more formal appearances, George, Charlotte and Louis were back in the classroom.

Still, Monday’s appearance proved they’re already learning the ropes of royal life. According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, who spoke with Hello!, William and Kate kept the kids engaged during the flyover by turning it into a fun guessing game. Even Queen Camilla reportedly joined in as William identified different aircrafts for his family. “That’s a UKMFTS,” he said at one point. “That’s similar to the Lancaster, I think.”

Meanwhile, the official royal family Instagram shared a stunning photo roundup from the events. The post kicked off with a dramatic shot of King Charles saluting beneath a sea of Union Jack flags, followed by snaps of Princess Anne in conversation, Duchess Sophie smiling and a rare photo of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.

All in all, it’s been a busy, history-rich week for the royals.
