Prince Harry’s Polo Buddy Praises Their Friendship and Says the Duke Found an ‘Amazing Teammate’ in Meghan Markle

We already think that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are a fairytale couple, but we love getting insider takes from some of their closest friends. And in a new interview, one of the duke's longtime polo teammates had nothing but sweet things to say about the royal pair.

People had the chance to chat with Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras, an Argentine model and frequent collaborator with the Duke of Sussex on the polo pitch. But while Figueras may enjoy playing with Prince Harry on the field, he enjoys the duke's company outside of matches as well, and he praised Prince Harry's relationship with Markle.

“[My wife] Delfi and I have known Harry for a very long time,” Figueras told People. “I know firsthand how much he wanted to have a family. He found an amazing teammate, or partner, in Meghan. They love each other very much; their children are lovely.”

Figueras continued, saying, “Being able to be with them for the last two months only made me happier—seeing them be a lovely family with their kids and their dogs, and that's really what [Prince Harry] always wanted. I'm very happy for them.”

Just a few days back, the Duke of Sussex competed alongside Figueras at the Sentebale Polo Cup at the Aspen Valley Polo Club in Colorado. The match acted as a fundraiser for Prince Harry's Sentebale charity, which aids children and adolescents in southern Africa who have been affected by HIV/AIDS, and more recently, COVID-19.

Right before this year's cup, Figueras shared a throwback from when he played alongside Prince Harry in the past, and he wrote a touching caption to go along with the pic.

“I love playing with you and even more so if we are raising money [for] this great cause,” he said. “Thank you to everyone supporting this event today at the @aspenvalleypoloclub.”

He added, “The Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup is held yearly and serves as the single largest fundraising moment for the charity to advance its mission on behalf of young people across Lesotho and Botswana.”

According to People, Figueras first met Prince Harry at a Sentebale charity match back in 2007 and the two have remained friends ever since.

Besides playing together at these fundraisers, the duke and Figueras were also teammates on the Los Padres squad at the Santa Barbara Polo Club.

Figueras actually shared a snap with Prince Harry and a couple of their other teammates back in May, where he said, “Thrilled to be riding alongside my friend, Prince Harry, and the rest of the Los Padres team at the @santabarbarapoloclub’s Harry East Memorial Tournament. We’ve ridden together many times over the years and now that we’re both parents, it’s extra special to be able to spend this time together.”

Talk about a great friendship.
