Life hasn’t been the same for Meghan Markle ever since she started dating Prince Harry. Not only did she give up her acting career, but she also left behind a beloved family member.
Prince Harry Reveals the Real Reason Wife Meghan Markle Left Her Dog Behind in Canada
"He'd been so traumatized"
In a newly resurfaced excerpt from Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex revealed that Markle was bombarded with attention shortly after news broke about their relationship. Since she was still working on Suits, she was living in Toronto with her rescue dogs—including a pup named Bogart.
Prince Harry revealed that the commotion was too much for Bogart to handle. So, Markle made the heartbreaking decision to leave him behind in Canada when she moved to the U.K.
“He’d been so traumatized by the siege of her house, by the constant ringing of the doorbell, that his demeanor changed when Meg was around,” Prince Harry wrote. “He’d become an aggressive guard dog. Meg’s neighbors had graciously agreed to adopt him.”
Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed multiple rescue dogs into their family. Prince Harry didn’t have pets as a child, so it’s a dream come true for the royal.
“I’d wanted a dog for so long, and I’d never been able to have one because I’d been such a nomad,” he wrote.
If only Bogart knew what he was giving up.
