Prince Harry Just Recreated One of Princess Diana’s Most Iconic Moments—28 Years Later

Remember the landmine walk?

You know the saying “like mother, like son”? Yeah, it may be cliché but sometimes it hits with uncanny accuracy, especially when it comes to Prince Harry and the legacy of Princess Diana.

On July 16, Harry traveled to Angola and the visit was more than just royal duties, it was personal. The Duke of Sussex was there to help deliver safety messages to children in a remote village but in doing so, he also paid powerful tribute to his late mother in a very literal way: by walking through a once-active landmine site, just as Diana did 28 years ago.

Harry, who became a patron of The HALO Trust (a British landmine clearance charity) back in 2019, has long supported demining efforts. During his visit, he returned to the exact same spot he first saw in 2013, only back then, the area was still a live minefield. Now? It’s a fully cleared, thriving community and also the location where children attended one of HALO’s safety education sessions.

In another full-circle moment, Harry joined HALO deminers on the ground and even helped destroy two South African anti-tank mines.

Of course, this all draws a clear line back to 1997, when Princess Diana famously walked through a live minefield in Huambo—an image that captured global attention and became one of the defining moments of her humanitarian legacy.

And it’s not just Harry channeling his parents lately. On July 7, Prince William stepped out to honor victims of the 7/7 bombings, marking 20 years since the attack. A photo of William at the Hyde Park memorial bore a striking resemblance to one of King Charles paying his respects that same day.
