First, it was Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Then it was Princess Martha Louise of Norway. And now, another royal couple has picked up and moved.
Over the weekend, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark relocated to the Chancellery at Fredensborg Castle, which is where they’ll reside for the rest of the summer. The pair brought along their four children: Prince Christian (15), Princess Isabella (13), and 10-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
The move (albeit temporary) is a pretty big deal for Prince Frederik and Princess Mary, since the Chancellery holds a special place in their hearts. First of all, it was the home of Frederik’s grandmother, Queen Ingrid, until her passing in 2000. And second, it was the couple’s first home after they tied the knot in an intimate wedding in May 2004.
The Chancellery served as their primary residence until 2010, which is when the renovations on Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen were finally completed. Today, the Chancellery doubles as the family’s go-to summer residence, with history dating back to 1731.
