Pharrell’s Oscars Ensemble Was Definitely Inspired by a Member of the Royal Family

Pharrell Williams has certainly worn his fair share of atypical awards-show looks (let us never forget his extra-tall topper at the 2014 Grammys), and it appears that this year’s Oscars are no exception. Rather than stick to the usual men’s tuxedo, Williams decided to branch out and dowhat many of us do on a daily basis—look to the royal family for fashion inspiration. We’re calling it: Williams’s shorts and tall socks getup was a nod to everyone’s favorite 5-year-old, Prince George.

The future king of England’s signature look is shorts with a proper jacket and knee-high socks (except on rare occasions). And what do you know, Williams rocked much the same thing to present at the Academy Awards.

His camouflage shorts suit could even be considered a nod to Prince Harry and his military service, proving even more just how royally obsessed Pharrell really is.

The musician was joined onstage by Crazy Rich Asians star Michelle Yeoh to present the award for Best Animated Feature to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
