The Obamas Are Headed to Netflix with These 7 (!) TV Shows and Movies

“Yes we can” watch Obama on Netflix, thanks to a new update from the streaming service.

Barack and Michelle Obama announced Tuesday, April 30, that they are working on a bunch of new TV shows and movies for Netflix after inking a deal with the company a year ago.

According to the The New York Times, the former president and first lady’s media company, Higher Ground Productions, will create a total of seven films and series. Barack Obama said the programming will entertain but also “educate, connect and inspire us all.” (You have our vote, sir.)

Higher Ground’s first release will be a Sundance Festival documentary called American Factory about a Chinese-owned factory in post-industrial Ohio. Crip Camp, a documentary about a summer camp for disabled teenagers that is set in the 1970s, is also on the slate.

There’s also a drama called Bloom that’s set in post-WWII New York, as well as an adaptation of The New York Times “Overlooked” obituary column, about deaths unreported by the paper. Higher Ground will produce a feature film on Frederick Douglass adapted from David W. Blight’s Pulitzer Prize–winning biography, as well as a documentary series that adapts Moneyball author Michael Lewis’s Fifth Risk, a best-seller about government workers serving appointees in the current presidential administration.

Finally, a show called Listen to Your Vegetables & Eat Your Parents will teach little kids about healthy food habits.

“We love this slate because it spans so many different interests and experiences, yet it’s all woven together with stories that are relevant to our daily lives,” Michelle Obama said. “We think there’s something here for everyone—moms and dads, curious kids, and anyone simply looking for an engaging, uplifting watch at the end of a busy day.”

According to AP, the films and show are set to be released over the next several years.

So no matter what 2020 brings, at least we’ll always have binge-watching.
