Mindy Kaling’s Latest Office Look Is All Chic Vibes—and I'm Obsessed with Her Skirt

It's a need

When it comes to officewear, there’s no shortage of interpretations (remember the “office siren” trend that took over TikTok?). And let’s be real—after years of remote work and Zoom dress codes, figuring out what’s appropriate to wear to an actual office has felt…confusing at best. Enter Mindy Kaling.

The Mindy Project creator and all-around style icon just dropped a new Instagram Reel and it’s pure office outfit inspiration. Set to Beyoncé’s "YA YA," the short clip shows Kaling rotating through a series of effortlessly chic looks—each one more wearable than the last.

There’s the sleeveless striped rainbow midi dress that screams “creative meeting on a Tuesday” and a slouchy off-the-shoulder sweater dress paired with knee-high suede boots and a structured red purse (that kind of looks like a face—and I love it).

She also throws in more casual picks like pairing jeans with a Versace-like patterned sweater or a striped button-down shirt. And of course, there’s a classic office staple: the dress pant and blouse combo that she somehow makes feel fresh.

She cheekily captioned the post: “WROOTD (writer’s room outfit of the day).”

But the standout? The lead look. Kaling is seen in a long, pleated black skirt with a dramatic thigh-high slit (maybe not exactly office appropriate but still gorg), a short-sleeved gray sweater and another gray sweater draped over her shoulders—hello, monochromatic moment. She finishes it with a cherry red purse that adds just the right pop of color. It’s cozy, elevated and absolutely on my spring outfit mood board.

And let’s not forget—this isn’t her first style win. From that red-hot blazer dress and matching stilettos to the sheer dress with an oversized blazer, Mindy Kaling proves she can serve a look for day, night or 9 to 5.

BRB, copying everything.
