Has ‘Bachelorette’ Fan Favorite Mike Johnson Been Approached to Be the Next Bachelor?
With Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette drawing to a close, we can’t help but wonder who will be the next star of The Bachelor.
While many have been campaigning for fan favorite Mike Johnson, he admitted that he hasn’t received any confirmation. “I haven’t spoken to no one about it,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “Yes, my homies from the show were speaking on it, and it’s really cool to hear that.”
Although it’s not the response we were hoping for, there’s still a good chance that ABC hasn’t made a decision regarding the upcoming season. In fact, host Chris Harrison recently sat down for an interview with People magazine and revealed that he fully supports Mike as a potential Bachelor.
“How could he not be a contender with that smile?” he said. “He’s one of my favorite people we’ve ever had on the show. He’s a love of a man.”
So, is Mike Bachelor material? Keep reading for all the reasons the 31-year-old should lead season 24 of the popular dating series.
1. He has the personality
Remember the “Mr. Right” competition in episode two? Well, Mike stripped down and wore a pair of stilettos, proving that no date is too cheesy for the contestant.
2. He's honest
While most of the men struggled to open up on Hannah Brown’s season, the same can’t be said for Mike. In episode three, Mike sat down with Brown during the group date and discussed his last relationship, which resulted in a miscarriage.
Although it didn’t work out, we applaud Mike for opening up about such a sensitive topic with an entire camera crew in the room.
3. He's ready to be engaged
During episode eight, Mike proved that he’s husband material right before Brown sent him packing.
“I’m 31 years old. I’ve learned a lot of things in my life. I’ve been around the world, and I truly know who I am, and I know what I want. I’m really ready,” he said. “I can see myself getting down on one knee in a few weeks, if I’m ever so lucky.”
4. The fans are on his side
Shortly after Mike was booted from the show, Twitter blew up with words of praise for the eliminated contestant.
Some users—like Bachelor in Paradise alum Evan Bass—jokingly threw in the towel, writing, “Brb never getting over mike leaving us—May his sweet soul return as the bachelor.” And others called for a double whammy: “Can Mike and his smile be the next bachelor, please?” Either way, you won’t hear us complaining.
5. His departure was practically an audition for 'The Bachelor'
Although Mike seemed upset about leaving the show, something tells us that he knows something we don’t. Not only did he seem to handle the news exceptionally well, but he also received ample screen time—particularly when he talked about what’s next in his journey to find love.
6. It's never been done before
While Rachel Lindsay (season 13) was the first African American Bachelorette, ABC has yet to feature a black male lead.
So, will Mike take on season 24 of The Bachelor? All signs point to yes.
