Meghan Markle's Latest Outfit Was a Major #Twinning Moment with This American ‘Royal’

We may not have any actual royals on this side of the pond, but what we lack in a birthright monarchy, we make up for in our own version of American “royalty” (Beyoncé and Jay-Z immediately come to mind). And no doubt the Kennedys top that list, in particular the late Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

So we almost lost it when Meghan Markle channeled the style icon during last night's Endeavour Fund Awards. Wearing head-to-toe Givenchy (save the Aquazzura gold-embellished heels), the similarities are remarkable to one of Bessette-Kennedy's gala looks that she wore in 1999.

Bessette-Kennedy was married to John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1996 after a whirlwind romance that began in 1994. At the time, she was working as a publicist for Calvin Klein. She and her husband were the subject of intense media scrutiny, with paparazzi following their every move.

Bessette-Kennedy, her husband and her sister were all tragically killed in a plane accident in the summer of 1999. However, her memory as a true American royal lives on (and her style influence on future royals—Meghan, we're looking at you—remains clear).

So, what'd we learn today, kids? That American royalty has perfected the crisp white button-down and black skirt combo, and it's a truly timeless look.

Weekend to-dos: Dig through our closet for these two staples.
