Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Replacing the Roof of a Texas Women’s Shelter

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are doing their part to help people suffering from the winter storm in Texas. In fact, over the weekend, they surprised one women’s shelter with a major donation.

On Sunday, Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support in Dallas, an organization that provides services to women and families who have experienced domestic violence, revealed on social media that they received a surprise donation from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. According to the Twitter post, the ex-royal couple stepped in to help during the organization’s time of need.

“Today the news of our damages reached Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!” the shelter wrote in a tweet. “Through their nonprofit, they are supporting us by replacing the roof at our transitional housing facility & helping us meet our immediate needs. THANK YOU, ARCHEWELL FOUNDATION!”

Per a previous post, the shelter announced that it was forced to shut its doors for the first time in 35 years due to power outages and a pipe that had burst in one of their buildings. Markle and Prince Harry’s donation will help make the needed repairs to the facility.

“In spite of the [devastating] winter storms here in Texas, our hearts have been warmed by the support and generosity of people from all 50 states and five foreign countries,” Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women's Shelter & Support, said in a statement per Town & Country. “Today, we were notified that through the actions of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nonprofit, Archewell Foundation, Prince Harry and Meghan will make a donation to help us get back on our feet. Not only will this gift provide for our critical needs, it shines an international spotlight on violence against women and children, letting survivors know that they are not alone.”

ICYMI: Last week, the couple confirmed that we won’t be returning as working members of the royal family. However, it’s clear that they still remain committed to causes close to their heart.
