‘Mean Girls’ Star Lacey Chabert Reveals what Gretchen Wieners’s Life Would Be Like Today

Although it feels like just yesterday that we learned butter is a carb and Wednesdays are for matching pink ensembles, Mean Girls hit theaters 15 years ago. (Shocking, right?) And with high school long over for Regina (Rachel McAdams), Cady (Lindsay Lohan), Gretchen (Lacey Chabert) and Karen (Amanda Seyfried), we can’t help but wonder what they’d be up to today. Luckily, Chabert has a pretty good idea.

When we chatted with the 37-year-old Mean Girls alum about her upcoming Hallmark Christmas movie Christmas in Rome, she spilled the deets on what she thinks Gretchen Wieners would be up to today.

“I feel like she probably would have married Jason and she is the heir to the Toaster Strudel empire, so she’s very busy running that,” Chabert mused. “And I feel like she probably has five little babies running around—and they all wear coordinating, matching outfits, as does she.” That seems pretty spot-on to us.

When asked if she and the rest of the cast still keep in touch, Chabert said, “Here and there. Life is busy and everyone has so much going on but our paths cross from time to time and it’s lovely to reconnect.”

There is one co-star, however, that she sees far more regularly: Jonathan Bennett who played Aaron Samuels and is now a part of the Hallmark family, too.

“He’s just a great guy. He’s so positive. He wants the best for everyone around him and he always makes sure that everyone has a really fun time and I just love him,” Chabert explained, adding that they’ve now acted in five projects together.

Speaking of upcoming projects, Chabert’s Christmas in Rome is due out November 30 at 8 p.m./ 7 p.m. central on the Hallmark channel.

Chabert gave us a little glimpse into the plot during our chat, saying, “My character is a tour guide in Rome but she really wants to give people tours that aren’t checklist tours and things they could Google…it’s about experiencing Rome and feeling like a Roman. It’s such a beautiful city with such history and culture. The food! The romance! So, over Christmas break, Oliver (Sam Page), is a businessman traveling to Rome on a business trip. They have a chance encounter and she has an opportunity to show him what Rome is all about.”
