His Royal Majesty is replacing his mother, Queen Elizabeth, as the face of a new coin collection.

The Royal Mint revealed a sneak peek of the official coin collection featuring King Charles’s face on Thursday. The memorial collection will honor the life and legacy of the late Queen Elizabeth, who was previously featured on the coin.

The Instagram account dedicated to the royal family shared pictures of the new coin. It features the king’s side profile surrounded by the words, “King Charles III, by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith,” written entirely in Latin.

According to the post, the monarch’s portrait will appear on two special coins—£5 and 50p—to commemorate the life and legacy of the queen. British sculptor Martin Jennings crafted the official effigy coin, and the design was personally picked by His Majesty.

Royal followers should also keep an eye out for the king’s portrait on the new currency banknotes. The Bank of England announced earlier this week that the new pound banknotes (featuring the king’s image) will be in full circulation across England by mid-2024.
