Washington clarified in the caption that she’s neither expecting, nor announcing a new season. She wrote, "If you thought this was a pregnancy announcement...download @hulu & watch Little Fires Everywhere [laughter emojis]. Or do whatever it is YOU need to do to practice self care this weekend! Take a bath! (It’s #NationalBubbleBathDay!), meditate, journal, sleep. But most importantly...treat yourself and treat each other with love & kindness."
One fan responded, "I clicked this SO FAST cause I thought it was a pregnancy announcement, but Little Fires was AMAZING, def one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen." Meanwhile, others were surprised to learn that it wasn't a teaser for season two. A follower wrote, "EYE thought this was a season 2 announcement [laughing emoji]." Washington's co-star, Reese Witherspoon, also joined in on the fun by adding the clever comment, "MAMMA MIA!"
While there are no official plans for a second season, screenwriter Liz Tigelaar revealed that a spin-off feels more plausible. She told Vulture, "My issue with season two is, I don’t know how Elena and Mia ever come together in an organic way."
She continued, "I do think there are stories to tell. But that’s more of a spinoff than a second season. It’s hard to say good-bye, but there’s something about trying to extend it past its shelf life that I feel would dishonor what it was."
We'd be lying if we said we aren't a little disappointed, but we're definitely tempted to binge-watch Little Fires Everywhere again.
