Someone Thought Kelly Clarkson Was a Seat Filler at the 2019 ACM Awards

Kelly Clarkson has won many honors throughout her career, including multiple Grammys, AMAs, ACM Awards and—of course—the inaugural season of American Idol. But that doesn’t mean everyone knows who she is.

Over the weekend, the 36-year-old singer attended the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The next day, Clarkson shared a series of posts on Twitter and explained the awkward encounter she had with someone who thought she was a seat filler. (Yep.)

The artist began by describing the “greatest thing by far” that happened during the 53rd annual ceremony.

Fans immediately responded with priceless commentary. While some users stated the obvious, writing, “Who do I have to fight?” Others blamed her fellow coach on The Voice, Blake Shelton. “Gotta wonder if Blake didn’t slip him $20 to mess you,” one post read.

Clarkson went on to confirm that she and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, were good sports about the whole ordeal.

During the awards show, Clarkson was nominated for Music Event of the Year for her song with Dan + Shay, “Keeping Score.” Unfortunately for KC, the award went home with Dierks Bentley for “Burning Man.”

Talk about a humbling experience.
