Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Katie Holmes

We all remember Kaite Holmes as Joey Potter—the Dawson's Creek character that catapulted her to mainstream fame. And now, the actress, mom, producer and director is still taking Hollywood by storm.

The Ohio native started modeling at just 14 years old and appeared in school musicals while attending Notre Dame Academy. She then enrolled at Columbia University to study medicine, but that changed after she submitted an audition tape for the role of Joey on Dawson's Creek.

Millions of fans were smitten with her character, which she played from 1998 to 2003. In that time, she graced the covers of several magazines and landed her first leading role in the film Disturbing Behavior. After Dawson's Creek, the actress decided to focus on films, working on titles like Pieces of April, First Daughter and Batman Begins. And in 2008, Holmes ventured into Broadway, by starring in a production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons.

In June 2005, Holmes got engaged to fellow actor Tom Cruise, whom she’d been dating for seven months. The pair then welcomed their daughter, Suri Cruise, in April 2006, prompting Holmes to take a hiatus from acting. The couple wasted no time in saying their ‘I do’s’. They held their ceremony in Bracciano, Italy, in November of the same year, but after five years of marriage, the pair called it quits.

Still, Holmes returned to her acting career with a bang. Aside from starring in movies like Mad Money, Miss Meadows and The Giver, she also landed roles in popular shows like The Kennedys and Ray Donovan.

In 2016, Holmes made her directorial debut with the drama film, All We Had. And in 2022, she flexed her directing skills once again with the romantic drama, Alone Together, which she also wrote and starred in. (Consider us impressed.)

Holmes currently lives with her daughter in New York City, where she's often photographed in her most fabulous outfits. Keep reading for the latest on Katie.
