Kate Middleton Just Broke a Royal Rule That Meghan Markle Broke Years Ago

Kate Middleton just broke royal protocol à la Meghan Markle.

This week, the British royal family attended an Easter Sunday church service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The Princess of Wales attended the event alongside her husband, Prince William, and her three children: Prince George (9), Princess Charlotte (7) and Prince Louis (4).

Princess Catherine wore a stunning coatdress by Catherine Walker, which she previously wore to the Commonwealth Day Service in March 2022. And it didn’t take long for fans to notice that she broke royal protocol with her colorful nail polish.

Instead of sporting a neutral shade, she wore a bright red polish that stood out against her royal blue clutch.

Members of the royal family are supposed to wear neutral colors while carrying out official duties. This guideline was established by Queen Elizabeth II, who discouraged royals from wearing bright, distracting hues on their nails.

However, this wasn’t the first time a royal broke this rule. Back in 2019, Meghan Markle attended Cirque du Soleil with her husband, Prince Harry, and wore dark polish on her toenails.

During the Easter Sunday service, Princess Catherine coordinated with her entire family, who also wore royal blue. Prince William, 40, and Prince George donned matching navy suits, while Princess Charlotte wore a blue-and-white floral dress with baby blue stockings and navy flats. Last but not least, Prince Louis wore a navy blazer with bright blue shorts and high socks.

Who knew nail polish could be so controversial?
