Kate Middleton and Prince William Share a Sweet Tribute in Honor of Lilibet's First Birthday

It looks like Queen Elizabeth's historic 70-year reign isn't the only milestone that the royals are celebrating this weekend.

In case you missed it, today also marks baby Lilibet's first birthday, and Kate Middleton and Prince William celebrated the occasion with a very special message. As they kicked off the day's events by visiting Cardiff Castle in Wales, they also took some time to post well wishes for their niece on their official Twitter page. They wrote, "Wishing a very happy birthday to Lilibet, turning one today!" The pair also added a playful balloon emoji.

In addition, Prince Charles and Camilla also shared a sweet tribute to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter, writing, "Wishing Lilibet a very happy 1st birthday today!"

Although members of the royal family traditionally release new photos and celebrate birthdays publicly, Omid Scobie, a royal commentator and co-author of Harry and Meghan’s biography, Finding Freedom, confirmed that the couple intend to keep Lili's celebrations private.

While appearing on BBC Breakfast, Scobie said (via Daily Mail), “I think people are expecting some sort of big birthday extravagant event, that we’re going to see photographs from. From what I’m told, we shouldn’t expect anything. Those moments with Lilibet are very much private between them and the Queen and of course, we know how much she’s been looking forward to it."

Scobie also confirmed that Her Majesty and Lili secretly met for the first time, after Trooping the Colour. He said, “We know the queen went back to Windsor Castle yesterday. The couple went back to Windsor as well, where they’re staying at Frogmore Cottage. So, that would have been the first moment or the first chance for her to meet her namesake.”

A private meeting with the queen and special birthday tributes? Sounds like Lili's birthday is off to an amazing start.
