Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Competitive Sides Came Out During an Intense Bake-Off

Believe it or not, Kate Middleton and Prince William got in a “roulade rumble” because of Mary Berry.

During the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s, both 37,  A Berry Royal Christmas last night, their healthy competitive spirits came out to play. Although the holiday special isn’t available to watch in the U.S. (yet), Kensington Palace shared a video of the royals competing in a baking challenge and captioned it, “Roulade rumble. It’s getting very competitive in the kitchen…” They, of course, added a boxing glove emoji.

Both tasked with making a roulade, Prince William and Middleton allowed their baking prowess to shine while showing off their friendly trash talk.

Prince William was paired with former The Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, who was more than happy to assist him in rolling up his roulade while Berry wasn’t looking.

Prior to starting the competition, William claimed that he’d “made hundreds of roulades, loads. I’m going to write a book about roulades and it’ll be a best seller.” In actuality, it was his first roulade experience.

Meanwhile, determined to not let her hubby be victorious in the kitchen, Kate (who really didn’t need any help) chatted up Berry while crafting her dessert. Distracted by Berry’s compliments and stories about the royal family’s Christmas, Middleton forgot to sprinkle powdered sugar on her cake before the time ran out. So, she simply told her competitor to “hold on” and went about sprinkling it on her beautiful roulade. Prince William wasn’t pleased by her last ditch effort to win, but he was reminded that there actually wasn’t a time limit.

Berry, 84, weighed in with the final judgment on their confections, telling the pair, “It’s a draw. I don’t want to quarrel with either of you. Well done for being so sporting—I know you’re both very competitive.”

Our guess is that Kate won. No shade, William.
