Kate Middleton Reveals that William Originally Tried to Woo Her with Bolognese (We're Not Kidding)

We finally know how Prince William stole Kate Middleton’s heart: with a plate of bolognese.

The royal couple joined baking expert Mary Berry for A Berry Royal Christmas, which aired in the U.K. on Monday night. During the event, Berry asked the duchess if William ever cooked for her at home.

“He sometimes does, actually,” Middleton responded. “He’s very good at breakfast.” However, while his breakfast skills may be on point, his dinners back in the day really impressed the future duchess.

“In our university days, he used to cook all sorts of meals,” Middleton revealed. “I think that’s when he was trying to impress me, Mary. Things like Bolognese sauce and things like that.”

The royal couple first met in 2001 at the University of St. Andrews (Scotland’s oldest university). Middleton (philanthropist extraordinaire) volunteered to model in a charity fashion show, and William (a real-life prince) paid £200—about $360—to sit front row. Although the Duke of Cambridge was immediately interested in the future duchess, she was going steady with some university plebeian.

And when she ended that relationship, Prince William was ready and waiting (apparently, with sauce).

Now if only we can get our own boyfriend to whip us up some Bolognese...
