Congratulations are in order for the newly engaged couple, Justin Long and Kate Bosworth!
In a new episode of his Life is Short podcast, Long, 44, confirmed that he popped the question. But believe it or not, the proposal didn't go according to plan. The actor said he "had a special thing planned" around Bosworth's 40th birthday in January, but things didn't exactly work out. In fact, the pair went through a rough patch right before Long proposed.
While opening up about his initial plans to propose, Long said, "Things change, and sometimes they change pretty drastically without any warnings." Then Bosworth added, "We had just gone through this really hard thing, and we had spoken to a therapist."
She continued, "We were trying to move through things at the time, and she gave us a really great piece of advice which was, 'Make sure that you're pretty consistently asking the other what you need, or asking the other what they need.'"
The couple didn't go into detail about their challenging period, but Bosworth did reveal that Long popped the question when she least expected it, calling it the "most romantic and honest and loving proposal."
The Locksmith actress said, "I remember waking up not so many mornings after that therapy session, and I looked at Justin, and I said … I remember, I smiled at you, and I said, ‘What do you need?’ He really looked at me and he said, ‘To spend my life with you.’"
Meanwhile, the Dodgeball actor said that the proposal felt "organic" and "connected to something very, very deeply, profoundly personal that we were going through—like, a real-life change—and so it came out in a very organic way."
In addition to the podcast, Bosworth confirmed the exciting news on her Instagram page—complete with clever movie references. She wrote, "These things are funny to announce. How to do this right? He’s going the distance? I’ve got a Blue Crush? He’s just THAT into me? I’ve won a date with…??? Ok you get it! We thought it might be nice to share our joy in a conversation you all can listen to, on my future husband’s @lifeisshortpodcast."
