‘Grease’ Is Getting a Prequel and Tell Me More, Tell Me More

grease prequel

Grab your ‘Pink Lady’ jackets because Grease is back, baby!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is working on a prequel to the 1978 hit film and we even have a title— Summer Loving.

How appropriate, right? The prequel will reportedly take us back to the summer when Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson met (the summer we only heard about in the original film’s song Summer Nights).

“Summer loving, had me a blast, summer loving happened so fast,” remember? Well, now it looks like we’ll be able to get a glimpse of what exactly happened, instead of just the he said/ she said banter we got from the hit song.

We don’t know too many details about the project so far, but here’s what we do know: John August (Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) has been tapped to write the screenplay. Still no word if the film is set to be a musical or not. Fingers crossed.

In case you need a refresher, Grease starred John Travolta (Danny) and Olivia Newton-John (Sandy) during high school after a supposed summer fling. The musical also featured performances from Stockard Channing (Rizzo), Didi Conn (Frenchie), Jamie Donnelly (Jan), and Dinah Manoff (Marty), who all played Pink Ladies. And we can’t forget about Jeff Conaway (Kenickie), Barry Pearl (Doody), Michael Tucci (Sonny) and Kelly Ward (Putzie), who appeared as Danny’s fellow T-Birds.

The real question? Who will be cast as our beloved Danny and Sandy?
