I Now Think Gladys Jones Is the Gargoyle King After Last Night’s Episode of ‘Riverdale’ & Here’s Why

Last night’s episode of Riverdale is leading me to believe that we’re days away from finding out who is the real Gargoyle King. And while I originally thought Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) was the mastermind, I’m starting to think that Gladys Jones (Gina Gershon) is the culprit, and here’s why.

On Chapter Fifty-Three of Riverdale, titled “Fear the Reaper,” Gladys, FP (Skeet Ulrich) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) team up to rescue Jellybean (Trinity Likins), who was taken by the Gargoyle King during last week’s episode.

After completing a series of quests, Jellybean is returned home safely, though the exchange resulted in a trip to the hospital for Gladys. When Jughead visits her, he suggests that she and Jellybean stay in Riverdale…for good.

But Gladys isn’t having it. So, she alters the plan to exclude herself, saying, “It’ll probably be best for everyone if I just disappear for a little bit.”

This decision seems pretty fishy to me. You see, Gladys has been seeking Jughead’s approval ever since she arrived in Riverdale, so why leave when she’s finally starting to make progress?

My best guess is that she’s afraid of what he might find if she stays. We already know she’s guilty of dealing Fizzle Rocks, but how involved is she? Is she just one of Hiram’s (Mark Consuelos) minions? Or does she play a much larger role, perhaps working for the Gargoyle King?

I’m not implying that Gladys is wearing the Gargoyle King costume every time. However, what I am saying is that Gladys is almost always missing when things go awry.

When FP and Jughead busted Kurtz (Jonathan Whitesell), where was Gladys? When everyone pointed their finger at Hermione, where was Gladys? And finally, when Jellybean was taken by the Gargoyle King, where was Gladys?

Yes, she always shows up eventually. But I’m starting to believe the Gargoyle King is more than one person, and Gladys might be one of them.

Riverdale returns to The CW next Wednesday, May 1, at 8 p.m.
