Tonight is television’s biggest night—the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. It’s the evening when the casts and crews behind our favorite shows gather at L.A.’s Peacock Theater to celebrate the best in TV from the past year. But before the awards are handed out and speeches are made, the real fun kicks off on the red carpet: celebrity interviews, fashion moments and even little hints at what we can expect on the next season of our go-to shows.

Now, red carpets aren’t always red—in fact, we’ve seen some questionable choices at the Emmys in particular—but I’m happy to report that this year, the classic crimson is back for the second year in a row.

If you tuned in for the 75th Emmys, you may remember the now-infamous silver-gray carpet that looked… well, like a blank sidewalk. Not the vibe. The step and repeat back then didn’t help either. It was a busy combo of “FOX” and “EMMYS” logos in white and gold splashed across a black backdrop. It ended up being more distracting than dazzling.

Fans were quick to call it out and clearly, someone was listening because that design hasn’t made a return.

While the red carpet remains the same, one thing has changed: the background.

Last year’s backdrop was a deep purple that nicely complemented the red carpet, with subtle gold logos. This year, it’s shifted to a more muted blue, still accented with gold sponsor names. Honestly? It works. It’s subtle, elegant and doesn’t steal the spotlight—exactly what a backdrop should be.

Now that the scene is set, let the fashion critiques, hot takes and Emmy excitement begin.
