My grandmother always says, "good things don't come cheap," but it never occurred to me to spend $500+ on sheets until I upgraded to a Peacock Alley Soprano sateen sheet set. And let me just say I've been sleeping in them for almost a month now, and they're some of the softest sheets I've ever owned. And they're cooling, so hot sleepers like me can finally get a good night's rest. But those aren't the only reasons these sheets are worth the investment.

Starting at $445 (depending on the size), you'll get one flat sheet, one fitted sheet and two pillowcases in 420-thread-count sateen fabric, which is a splurge if you're anything like me. But the woman-owned and operated brand, which has been creating luxurious bedding for nearly 50 years (since 1973 to be exact) from linens imported from Italy, Portugal and more, says the set is long-lasting. So you shouldn't have to replace it for years. "The quality of these sheets is outstanding. I discovered them nearly 20 years ago and have never bought another kind since," one reviewer raves. Other than that, they look even more luxurious in person, I feel like I'm sleeping at a hotel every night.

If you're wondering how they hold up in the washer, they do as long as you machine-wash cold (without mixing colors) and avoid using fabric softener and bleach and tumble dry on low. Ironing is also not necessary which buyers can back me up on.

One shares, "I must say that the side seams actually stay flat after washing and don't fold over on themselves, [so it] saves a little touch-up steaming or ironing."

That's because it's crafted with a four-over-one-under weave, which keeps it from wrinkling, but I was too busy obsessing over how soft and buttery the sheets felt, which helped me stay cool throughout the night.

In other words, I totally get what my grandmother said now, and I'm officially giving my old cotton sheets the boot. Buyers have mentioned that you also can't go wrong with the Clara sateen sheet set, however, which is more reasonably priced starting at $169. Either way, they'll probably beat your old set, so you know what to do.
