I have never, ever been a morning person. In college, I used to choose my classes so I wouldn’t have to wake up before noon. I’ve always opted for evening workouts and midnight emails. If I were to ever see a sunrise, it was because I was still up from the night before. But then I hit my mid-30s and moved across the country to Los Angeles, where I found myself in a new time zone, with a new work schedule that has me logging on at 6 a.m. to keep up with my team’s East Coast hours. If I wasn’t a morning person before, I really had to become one now.
Thankfully, I also found myself with a new bed upon relocating: the Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress (from $1,549; $799). Featuring a 13-inch-thick combination of springs and memory foam, it turned out to be just what I needed to acclimate to my new routine—and actually enjoy waking up before the sun. After snoozing on it for five months (alongside my partner), here’s my honest review.
