Helix Midnight Luxe Review and Exclusive Code
Original photos by Mary Rogers

PureWow editors have a motto: Work hard, sleep hard. You could say we've done plenty of both by testing dozens of mattresses over the years. One of our most recent favorites, beloved by not one, but two of our staffers? None other than award-winning hybrid, the Helix Midnight Luxe. As former Director of Audience Development Mary Rogers shares, it was just the thing to help support her side sleeping during pregnancy and beyond. And since both she and our Executive Managing Editor Catrina Yohay love it so much, we've secured our readers an exclusive *sitewide* discount to help you save big while trying it—or any of Helix's other top-rated mattresses—for yourself.

Yep, from now through March 15, PureWow readers can use code PUREWOW27 to save 27 percent on everything on the site. FYI: That brings the price of the Midnight Luxe down from $2,399 to $1,751 for a Queen—a steeper markdown than the 25 percent everyone else is getting (you're welcome). Read on to learn why Rogers says it's worth the buy.

Review: The Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress

Pros

  • arrives in a nice compact box
  • even if you’re not a side sleeper it’s pretty comfortable
  • firm but not too firm

Cons

  • box is very heavy (not a one person job to get it upstairs)

Helix

"Purchasing a mattress online without testing it beforehand is really scary (especially when you're pregnant and struggling to sleep already!)," Rogers notes. But she "took the plunge because of Helix's 120-night trial period. Although some brands offer longer trials, it still made me feel comfortable enough to purchase it with the ability to return it if I did not like it."

The Helix Midnight Luxe arrived in a rather compact box, but be aware that the mattress is quite heavy, so it's a two-person job to take it to your bedroom and set it up.

Thanks to its construction of ultra-high density memory foam, gel-infused layers and up to 1,000 individually wrapped coils with reinforced support, the mattress offers the best of both worlds in terms of cradling comfort and springy support.

"I'm typically a back sleeper, but around midway through pregnancy I needed to sleep on my side. The Helix mattress is very suitable to side sleepers because it's firm, but also has a bit of give that allows your hip and shoulder to sink a little while sleeping in this position. My husband is also a side sleeper and finds the mattress to have just the right amount of support," says Rogers.

The bed comes with two top layer options: the standard Tencel cover, derived from sustainably sourced eucalyptus fibers, or for an extra $187, the GlacioTex Cooling cover, designed to draw heat away from the surface of the mattress for superior cooling. "While the mattress doesn't keep me hot at night, the plush top isn't exactly cooling either. If you sleep warm, I'd suggest choosing the cooling cover," Rogers adds.

As far as firmness goes, the Helix Midnight Luxe lands somewhere right in between—making it the perfect compromise for partners who are split on their preferences.

"The mattress is firm, but it does sink a bit (which is why it's good for side sleepers). The top layer pressed down around 2 inches when I push," observes Rogers. "For someone looking for a truly firm or soft mattress, this is not it. I would say this falls right in the middle, and would [also] make a great mattress for a guest room because it didn't doesn't sway too much one way or the other."

helix midnight vs midnight luxe mattress

What's the difference between the Helix Midnight and Midnight Luxe Mattress?

If you're deciding between the standard Helix Midnight and the Midnight Luxe, here's what you need to know. The Midnight offers the same firmness level with a similar hybrid design, including pressure-relieving memory foam and supportive innersprings. You also have the same options in terms of the cooling pillow top and optional ErgoAlign layer, an additional feature (from $249; $187) specifically designed to relieve back pain.

The standard Midnight, however, does not have the option to add the additional CoolForce layer (another heat-transferring addition) with the GlacioTex pillow top. The Midnight features less dense memory foam, with SupremeSupport 2.5 compared to the Luxe's SupremeSupport 4. The Midnight also offers slightly less support at the coil layer, as only the edges are reinforced (with the Midnight Luxe, it's also reinforced where your hip would lay). And while the Midnight Luxe comes in at 13.5 inches thick, the Midnight is only 11.5 inches.

Of course, without the more premium features, the Midnight is priced below the Midnight Luxe, starting at $729 for a twin with our code, while the Luxe starts at $1,048.

Bottom Line: Is the Midnight Luxe Mattress Worth the Money?

Helix

For side sleepers seeking support, pressure relief and upgraded cooling options, the Helix Midnight Luxe is worth the investment—especially while you can save 27 percent on it with code PUREWOW27. Our reviewers appreciate the multiple customization options, and the fact that it's in the Goldilocks zone of firmness.

The brand relieves even more pressure (pun intended) by offering a 120-night trial with totally free returns, so if you're in the market for a mattress upgrade, you've really got nothing to lose.
