Dear Ask a Shopping Editor,
I have a parade of houseguests coming to visit throughout the holiday season. Where do I get the best bedding for a guest room? I want something that says, "I'm classy and you should stay at my house," but not something that costs a million dollars.
Sincerely,
Holiday Hostess on a Budget

Dear Holiday Hostess,
First off, allow me to thank you for your service—I hop from guest room to guest room during the holidays, and such hospitality is so appreciated by us visiting vagabonds (especially when it’s saving us from those horrific December hotel rates). That said, I think I’m particularly qualified to break down what, exactly, makes for a great guest bedroom situation.
It’s important to keep in mind that your guests are not used to how hot or cold you keep your home, so looking for bedding made from temperature-regulating materials is a thoughtful way to ensure their comfort. (While I’m never going to complain about a free, warm bed, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve woken up drenched in sweat at a friend’s house under a heavy polyester comforter.) Fabrics like bamboo viscose, flax linen and cotton percale are renowned for their breathability and cooling properties, which IMO, become even more vital during the winter months when home heating systems are typically cranked up to high.
Duvets and sheet sets in these materials can run you hundreds of dollars (which you clearly already know, otherwise you wouldn’t have written in). Lucky for you, though, Quince—my one-stop shop for everything from holiday decor to petite-friendly fashion—offers bedding made from all of the above for a fraction of the price of other brands, and the quality is seriously impressive.
Quince
In fact, I have Quince’s European linen deluxe bedding bundle, which starts at $233, on my own bed right now. It offers a great value not just for the 100 percent flax linen fabric, which is equal parts crisp and cozy (and makes the entire bed feel like the cool side of the pillow), but also for everything that’s included: fitted sheet, flat sheet, two pillowcases, two shams and a fluffy duvet cover that has some nice heft to it.
Quince
You can shop the same one-and-done bundle in organic cotton percale (from $140) and organic bamboo (from $191), both of which have been described by buyers as “soft” and “luxurious.” Standalone sheet sets, pillowcases and other bedding items are also up for grabs at shockingly good prices, plus you can throw in a throw blanket or quilt for good measure, which will give visitors some layering options if they do get chilly in the night.
If you’re hoping to welcome loved ones with open arms and luxe bedding this season (and year-round), Quince is definitely going to be your best bet on a budget. But be warned: After experiencing just one snooze in your new bedding, your guests may never want to leave…
