Applebee’s New Dirty Fountain Sodas, Ranked & Reviewed

Whip it good

applebee's dirty fountain soda review: applebee's dirty fountain sodas side by side

There are plenty of tasty reasons to go to Applebee’s nowadays. The 2 for $25 menu lets you order one app and two mains for an epic price, while the Ultimate Trio menu allows you to try three appetizers of your choice from a long list of options. But don’t sleep on the latest update to the drinks menu: You can now turn any fountain bev into a dirty soda (aka top it with whipped cream and a cherry) for $1.

Not only can you customize any pop of your choice, but there are also three preset dirty fountain sodas on the menu to order as is. To see if they were worth the splurge, I, a food editor, tasted them all. Read on for my original photos and honest reviews.

3. Passion Blue Dew

  • What It Is: Mountain Dew Dark Berry Bash, passion fruit, half-and-half, whipped cream and a cherry

This fruity, sweet-tart sipper reminded me of Smarties or Nerds. It tasted more artificial than the other options. It was decently sour yet vaguely sweet. The silky, juicy passionfruit was no doubt the best part (besides the color, of course).

2. Cherry Charmed Pepsi

  • What It Is: Pepsi, grenadine, half-and-half, whipped cream and a cherry

Full disclosure: I love cherry cola. So, I expected this beauty to be my top choice, but it came in second. The grenadine pour was pretty modest. (Also, fun fact, grenadine is traditionally made from pomegranate, so it’s not technically cherry-flavored, even though its color and semi-sweet taste are used to mimic that.) With the whipped cream mixed in, it reminded me of a Coke float.

1. Mango Dream Dew

  • What It Is: Mountain Dew, mango, half-and-half, whipped cream and a cherry

This one was straight-up delicious. This Applebee’s dirty soda didn’t have the vibrancy or tartness of full-fruit sorbet, but it was more like mango ice cream cut with seltzer. (Think Trader Joe’s Mango Cream Bars.) Because of the thicker consistency, it felt more like a novelty beverage than a standard soda, which made it seem more worth the spend.
