5 Rainy-Day Outfits That Work Every Time
Rain, rain, go away. Come back when we have something better to wear. Wondering how to look put together when it’s wet, icy and just plain nasty out? Here, our five best tips for dressing for a rainy day in comfort and style.
1. Minidress + Black Boots
It doesn’t matter if you go for tall boots or short ones, just make sure they’re black or tan so you don’t look like you’re posing as the Morton Salt Girl. (And maybe avoid wearing an all-yellow dress while you’re at it.) Top the whole thing off with a raincoat and you’re good to go.
2. Printed Trench + Anything But Jeans
This slicker looks fierce. You know what’s not so fierce? Soaking jeans from the knees down. When you’ve got a three-quarter (or shorter) raincoat, choose pants made from a breathable, quick-drying fabric, like merino wool, nylon and polyester. On the other hand, stay away from cotton, denim, silk or linen, which tend to absorb moisture.
3. Rain Hat + Trench Coat
Cute waterproof hats do exist! Opt for a trendy bucket style in black or dark brown (and with a patent finish) to keep things sophisticated and understated.
4. Maxi Jacket + Sporty Sneakers
Not a fan of rain boots and seem to have misplaced every umbrella you’ve ever owned? Opt for a rain jacket that goes all the way down to your ankles and a pair of kicks with some serious tread. As for what’s underneath your coat? Keep things casual with joggers or raw-hem jeans and an easy tee.
5. Colorful Anorak + Patterned Dress
Gray skies got you down? Try a red rain jacket in place of your usual black one and pair it with a dress in complementary hues. We’re feeling happier already.
