I’ve often said that Princess Eugenie (and her sister Princess Beatrice) fly under the radar when it comes to their impeccable royal style. Last week marked another prime example of Eugenie’s sartorial prowess. During an appearance at a VIP preview for the Frieze Art Fair in London, Prince William’s cousin stepped out dressed in head-to-toe black. But it was the pieces (and how she styled them together) that delivered the most effortless fall ensemble—and one I can’t wait to try myself.

Here’s what you’ll need: A pleated black skirt (Eugenie’s is past season from Zara, but I found a similar style from Reiss, $275) and a black crewneck sweater (I love this one from White+Warren, $365). To accessorize, add a belt and necklace. Bonus points if you also have a cute berry-hued bag like the one Eugenie carried. (I love this one from royally-approved brand, Cuyana, $498.)
As a whole, Eugenie’s ensemble is monochromatic dressing at its finest, offering a look that feels polished and professional, while staying low-maintenance and chic. I also like how the pleats on the skirt give an otherwise all-black look a bit of movement and visual interest—I’d easily wear this to the office, but it works just as well for after-work drinks or dinner.

As for the Frieze Art Fair, it takes place annually at Regent’s Park with over 130 galleries displaying the work of contemporary and living artists. For her part, Eugenie has long been passionate about art, having studied English Literature and History of Art at Newcastle University. She also currently works as Associate Director of Hauser & Wirth’s London-based art gallery.
Back to her look: I pulled a few pieces below to help you mirror Eugenie’s style yourself.
