Meghan Markle hopped onto one of Los Angeles’s biggest trends when she turned up in Midtown Manhattan for the Time100 Summit. The As Ever founder and mom of two wore a pair of wide-leg pleated pants—currently the single most popular trend item I see around town here in Los Angeles—along with a matching strong-shouldered jacket.

Markle’s pants and blazer ensemble is just the right kind of all-round-appealing prettiness that Markle rocks so well, like when she dons a white shirtdress or a knit piece from Malibu brand Bleusalt. Markle paired her Time100 Summit outfit with brown pointed-toe pumps and a belt, making the working woman pantsuit style a little more elevated. These items are from Ralph Lauren’s most exclusive line (the pants are the Greer Silk-Linen Twill Pleated Pant and retail for $2,190, while the Russell Silk-Linen Twill Jacket costs $2,490). Their 52 percent tussah silk and 48 percent linen fabric blend is next-level elegance, comfort and beauty, but the appeal of the pleated pant is strong in other fabrics too, including poplin, broadcloth and poly blends.
When I wrote about the pleated pants trend in Los Angeles, I was struck by how versatile the pants are, and how easilty they can be dressed up (like Markle did) or down (by pairing with a white T-Shirt or puff-sleeve top).
