This latest twist on the athleisure trend is all about embracing the staples of a golf pro’s working wardrobe. I’m talking polo shirts, visors, straight-leg trousers, tailored shorts and minimalist skorts. A quick scroll through the socials of any of the top three ranked women in the world—Nelly Korda, Jeeno Thitikul and Lydia Ko—will give you all the inspiration you could possibly need to get a sense for the preppy vibes.

Of course, you don’t have to go all in at the country club store to embrace Golfcore. Plenty of street style stars are already making it their own with some high-fashion twists. For example you could pair a polo shirt layered over a slim-fit long sleeve with basketball shorts or track pants to keep within the sporty vibes but without feeling quite so prim. Or you could rock a streamlined skort, crew socks and loafers with a ruffled blouse to combine Golfcore with the boho revival. Or simply swap your go-to baseball cap for a LGPA visor instead. For a real deep cut, you could always copy the unusual stylings of Happy Gilmore, plus or minus the gold jacket.

While you certainly don’t have to rock pieces that were actually designed for golfers—your old favorite tennis skirt and a cotton polo will get the image across just fine—those clothing items very often have two notable benefits I, for one, adore: ample pockets and built-in UPF. On the course those pockets might be used to stow extra golf balls, tees or ball markers, but that won’t stop me from loading mine up with all my daily essentials so that I don’t have to carry a bag for the afternoon. And that built-in sun protection? Essential for summer when that SPF 50 I slathered on in the morning inevitably starts to wear off well before I’m ready to head back indoors.
