The sweetheart neckline is the MVP

The other week, I was out shopping with my best friend when we passed a Free People storefront. We glanced at each other before eying the window a few seconds too long, clearly signaling a desire to walk in. You see, we were hesitant because she was visiting me in London, and this was our ‘shopping day’ dedicated to stores you can only find in the UK, like Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Primark, so stepping foot into a store we were deeply familiar with—something akin to an Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie—felt like we were breaking the rules. But I was in desperate of cute tops to mix up my usual white tee rotation and—most importantly—make my small boobs look anything but itty. So, what harm could a little browsing do?

Inside, I ran my hands along bell bottoms, satin dresses and lots of boho skirts before I stumbled upon the Duo Corset Cami ($48). They were hung along the wall in an assortment of colors, from neutrals like white and black to pops of color like blue and plum. To be honest, I didn’t think it looked like much at first glance. I’m someone that has always steered clear of sweetheart necklines for no justifiable reason other than the fact that they didn’t look like they would suit me, but for that split second, I thought, why not?

While it may not have been love at first sight, it was surely love at first wear. What makes the slim-fitting Duo Corset Cami such a goldmine is that it blends the best of the best together (a bra, a cami and a corset) into a super soft and stretchy top, creating magic for my fellow small-chested gals without any of the discomfort. Seriously, between the deep sweetheart neckline that scoops just at the breasts and the seamed cup design, it really creates the illusion that 1) my boobs exist and 2) they’re perfectly lifted and perky. And it does all of that without the help of compression, which I find extremely uncomfortable and restricting on my ribcage anyway.

Now I may be late to the game because so many A-list celebrities with small boobs are preferring the sweetheart neckline tops to any other cut, including Zoe Saldaña, Zendaya and Nikki Glaser, but I finally get the hype. It’s about time we give this style the recognition it deserves, so if you need a casual-meets-cute top that makes the girls look their best, this top has you covered. Best of all, besides the fact that I don’t need to wear a bra, it comes in 20 colors…and I have a feeling you’re going to want to buy it in multiple. Oh, and did I mention that it’s less than $50? Yeah, that’s amazing, too.
