Jeans + Jean Jacket + Button-down

Think of Ijeoma Kola’s ensemble as an elevated, fall-appropriate take on jeans and a T-shirt. The button-down and low slingbacks dress up the denim while still maintaining a sense of effortless cool.

Get the look: Something Navy jeans ($89); Gap jacket ($70); Banana Republic button-down ($68)

Sweater + Leather Leggings + Ankle Boots

The great debate: Can you wear leggings as pants? We (and Coco Bassey) say you absolutely can. Two things to keep in mind: First, it’s way easier to dress up a faux-leather pair than the kind you can wear to the gym. Secondly, opt for a fancy-ish shoe, like a loafer or block-heel ankle boot.

Get the look: Topshop sweater ($68); Splendid leggings ($98); Jeffrey Campbell boots ($175)

Jeans + Sweater + Trench

Noticing a theme here? This fall we’re all about adding chic and sophisticated twists to our favorite dressed-down pieces. There’s certainly nothing wrong with jeans and a sweater, but, as Olivia Jeanette so stylishly proves, the addition of a classic, wear-forever trench takes it to the next level.

Get the look: Levi's jeans ($98); Old Navy sweater ($37); Lauren Ralph Lauren trench ($160)

Sweatshirt + Wide-leg Trousers

A sweatshirt worn with jeans or track pants can read a little pajama, but a sweatshirt with luxe trousers—especially in velvet, à la Monroe Steele—is a fun, high-low contrast you should absolutely recreate. Note that this generally looks best with a heel (even a super-low one).

Get the look: J.Crew sweatshirt ($33); Leith trousers ($75)

Sweater Dress + Belt Bag + Moto Jacket

A cozy sweater dress is a fall classic. This season, make like Sommar Theodore and spice up the silhouette by cinching your waist with a belt bag and carrying a moto jacket to throw over your shoulders in the event of a dip in temperature.

Get the look: Loft dress ($90); Sam Edelman belt bag ($78); BlankNYC jacket ($98)

Jeans + T-shirt + Blazer

Worn together or separately, jeans, a tee and a plaid blazer (bonus points if you scrunch up the sleeves like Shanna Battle) are timeless pieces you’ll never regret purchasing.

Get the look: Good American jeans ($159); BP. T-shirt ($17); Anine Bing blazer ($349)

Black Top + Cropped Black Pants + Camel Jacket

An all-black outfit is the ultimate in easy dressing. To keep it from feeling boring, top it off with a rotation of fun and different coats and jackets. For casual excursions, wear a camel coat like Grace Atwood’s with slip-on sneakers; in dressier settings, swap them out for your go-to pumps.

Get the look: Splendid top ($48); 1901 pants ($79); BB Dakota jacket ($145)
