Summer is here and it's finally time to update your sunglasses collection. Sometimes the trendiest sunglasses on the market aren't ideal for your face shape, like round frames on round faces, so knowing your head shape will really help you more easily shop for a pair of shades.

If you're unsure what your face shape truly is, we can help with that. Look at your face straight-on in a mirror: Is your jaw wider and chin softer? You probably have a round face. Is your face narrower with a longer forehead or jaw? Your face is likely oval. If your forehead is wide and your face gets narrower toward the chin then you're looking at a heart shape. And if you see a pretty even width from your forehead to your jawline then that's a square shape. Still not sure? Print out a picture of yourself straight-on and trace the outline of your face for a visual.

If you want to pick up a new pair (or two) but don’t know where to start, check out our guide to which sunnies look the best for every face shape, as illustrated by some of our favorite celebs. Plus, see our top picks for each.

1. If You Have a Round Face…Try Cat-Eye Sunglasses

If you have a round face (à la Emma Stone), cat-eye sunglasses are the way to go. Why? The tapered edges lift the sides of your face to show off those beautiful cheekbones and give you a more snatched look.

If You Have a Heart-Shaped Face…Try Round Sunglasses

Heart-shaped faces like Kerry Washington’s have such stunning bone structure. You don’t want to distract from your angles, making round sunnies an excellent option. Even better, try a wire frame instead of plastic for a sleeker look.

If You Have a Diamond-Shaped Face…Try Square Sunglasses

Diamond-shaped ladies know how to work their sharp jawlines. (Miss JLo certainly does.) Adding some structure to the upper part of the face with square shades will complement a defined jaw. Also keep in mind that if you have a larger forehead, larger sunnies are the way to go; if you have a smaller one, try the tiny sunglass trend—we think you’ll like it.

If You Have an Oval Face…Try Aviators

This consistently trendy style gives a little edge to the oval faces out there. If your face shape is similar to the eternally gorgeous Halle Berry, aviators are a fab way to bring some extra dimension to the face.

1. Ray-ban Aviator Sunglasses

These aviators aren’t too wide, so they won’t take up too much surface area on your face. The lighter shade of tan with gold is also perfect to complement that summer glow.
