Netflix’s New Series Looks Like a Cross Between ‘Riverdale’ & ‘Thelma & Louise’

Netflix just dropped the first official teaser for Sky Rojo, and it looks like a cross between Riverdale and Thelma & Louise.

The streaming service debuted a never-before-seen glimpse at the upcoming Spanish crime series, which was created by Money Heist masterminds Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato.

To be completely upfront, the teaser is a bit confusing because it doesn’t give away very many details about the plot. Instead, it follows a bullet at it travels (in slow motion, of course) through a montage of scenes featuring various places, including a strip club, an apartment and a car.

The series follows three glamorous prostitutes—Coral (Verónica Sánchez), Wendy (Lali Espósito) and Gina (Yany Prado)—who are on the run from their controlling pimp, Romeo (Asier Etxeandia). Their thrilling journey leads them to several self-discoveries, in addition to the realization that they’re stronger as a team than as individuals.

Other cast members include Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Enric Auquer, Mariana Salazar, Penélope Guerrero and José Manuel Poga.

Although season one of Sky Rojo is set to premiere on Netflix on March 19, the series creators previously revealed that more seasons are expected in the near future. “We wanted Sky Rojo to have the same frenetic action as always, but to use that 25-minute runtime to underline the dynamic nature of the plot: the getaway, the race for survival,” Pina and Lobato said in a statement. “The third act of a movie or an episode is where all the energy converges to produce the most vibrant explosion of all the conflicts that are being narrated. What we set out to do was to make a constant third act, to funnel our entire story through that frenzied energy.”

Sounds right up our alley.
